Boys' Vintage Toys

Beautiful toys from yesteryear

The 9 inched hulled Sutcliffe Sprite must be one of the Sutcliffe's biggest seller. I'm not surprised as it is one of my favourite Sutcliffe boats, and indeed one of my favourite toys of my childhood. I bought my first Sprite around 1975 for £1.00 from Woods' newsagents in Beaumaris , Anglesey. It was all cream . It is still in my collection , alas with a broken spring , the decking separated from the hull , and to cap it all the cabin painted a dull yellow. The yellow must have been some Airfix paint I had lying around at the time. Sprites came in many colour variations over the years. These can been seen below.

One of the later Sprites from the mid seventies with a blue hull and a white deck.
It has the smaller than standard winding hole that has no stopper suplied. This may have been as a cost saving measure.
Unlike the earlier other Sprites , this one has the round transfer on the 'engine cover hatch'.

The red hull is one of the less common colour schemes.

Again, one of the later Sprites from the mid seventies with a blue hull and an ivory deck with a red band around the periphery of the deck.
It has the smaller than standard winding hole that has no stopper suplied. This may have been as a cost saving measure.

This colour scheme makes this boat one of my favourites.

Has the larger decal on the 'engine cover hatch'.
I have seen this boat described as comparitively rare , but I have personally come across more cream coloured Sprites than any other colour scheme.
